Depiction of an exhibition for that matter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>An Exhibition on Capitalist Art<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>perhaps Till Wasserpest<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What is called art today is no longer a commodity in any simple sense.<br \/>\nIt is a language \u2013 and this language is ideologically formed.<\/p>\n<p>Not because art is sold, but because it has learned<br \/>\nhow one must speak in order to be allowed to persist.<br \/>\nThe decisive mechanisms are not prices or relations of ownership,<br \/>\nbut formats: legibility, connectivity, situational critique,<br \/>\ncontrolled deviation.<\/p>\n<p>Art is therefore no longer a place, but a mode of conduct.<br \/>\nIt shapes subjects long before it asserts meanings.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, art today can no longer be a critique of capitalism.<br \/>\nNot because critique is absent,<br \/>\nbut because the very mode of production already speaks<br \/>\nthe logic of the system it claims to criticize.<br \/>\nNot in a blatant or affirmative way,<br \/>\nbut subtly, elegantly, unmarked.<\/p>\n<p>The ideological does not lie in the content,<br \/>\nbut in the syntax.<br \/>\nIn the self-evidence<br \/>\nwith which everything appears as material:<br \/>\nworld, relation, suffering, crisis, more-than-human life.<\/p>\n<p>The contemporary exhibition world is not a special case in this regard.<br \/>\nIt is a training ground.<br \/>\nHere, nothing is sold;<br \/>\ninstead, one practices<br \/>\nhow to address the world without touching it.<br \/>\nHow to name everything without letting anything remain.<br \/>\nHow to thematize violence<br \/>\nwithout assuming responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Capitalism needs no censorship here.<br \/>\nIt needs only a language<br \/>\nin which everything can be said,<br \/>\nas long as nothing binds.<\/p>\n<p>Animals, landscapes, destroyed habitats<br \/>\nare not placed in relation,<br \/>\nbut rendered available \u2013<br \/>\naesthetically, discursively, morally.<br \/>\nEven critique is not suppressed,<br \/>\nbut kept exploitable.<\/p>\n<p>The problem, therefore, is not the art market.<br \/>\nThe problem lies deeper:<br \/>\nin a humanity<br \/>\nthat has learned<br \/>\nto treat everything outside itself<br \/>\nas an instrumental exterior \u2013<br \/>\nand to mistake this attitude<br \/>\nfor reflection.<\/p>\n<p>The world no longer appears as a shared world,<br \/>\nbut as a topic.<br \/>\nAs an occasion.<br \/>\nAs a resource.<\/p>\n<p>Art that speaks this language<br \/>\ndoes not withdraw from capitalism.<br \/>\nIt enacts it.<br \/>\nNot out of malice,<br \/>\nbut out of practice.<\/p>\n<p>A humanity that speaks in this way<br \/>\nwill not lose the world.<br \/>\nIt has already replaced it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Exhibition on Capitalist Art perhaps Till Wasserpest What is called art today is no longer a commodity in any simple sense.
